Sexy as hell or not, this pompous, arrogant, ASSHOLE asked me to pick up his dry cleaning the second I walked through the door. Then he told me that I needed to take his Jaguar to a car wash that was ten miles outside of the city, but only after I needed to stand in a never-ending line to buy some type of limited, hundred-dollar watch.

I honestly can't wait to see the look on his face two months from now when I tell him that I'm quitting his company and that he can kiss my ass. KISS. MY. ASS.

All those former fantasies about him kissing me with his "mouth of perfection" or bending me over my desk and filling me with his cock are long over. OVER.

I'm telling you, my head must be up my butt most of the time because not only did I not know about this book until a couple of days ago but I wasn't familiar with this author. How does that even happen?!?

Novellas are not my thing. I've been burned quite a few times with them because it never feels like the story is complete - things aren't fully fleshed out and I'm left irritated that I wasted time on a partial novel. Lately, I've been lucky enough to find quite a few novellas that are AWESOME. This one definitely deserves to be at the top of the pile. 

Since it is such a short book, I'm going to be very brief with my review because I don't want to give anything away. First, I hope that you've read the blurb already and if you have, then you probably won't be reading any reviews to check the book out because you'll realize without having to read my thoughts that this book is going to be badass. You would be correct. It is. Very much so. 

This novella is partially written as emails. I didn't know how I would feel about that at first but I ended up falling in love with the whole darn thing. What an interesting concept! I think it gives you a peek into who a character actually is because things are said to besties that aren't said to anyone else - sometimes even ourselves. And then the response that Michael gave Mya. I wanted to die of embarrassment for her. Can you imagine?!?

These two had such amazing chemistry and you couldn't help but admire Mya and all of her snarkiness and when you get her d-bag boss, Michael, thrown into the mix ... it's just great. You'll read reviews where it bashes Michael's character because he's a man-whore. Yes, the dude sleeps around. That's probably too nice of a phrase for him ... he had a different chick lined up every day. Like scheduled and shit. First of all, I find that admirable. Can you imagine trying to juggle that many women, let alone scheduling stuff? My husband can't even keep up with ME ... so I can't imagine that poor bastard and the balancing act he'd have to pull out of somewhere. Michael's ... extra curricular activities ... come off as almost comical and no reason to get all virginal Mary on the book. It's fine. It's a book. You won't burst into flames, people. 

The story itself is super fast paced - which is my favorite - and when you're done, you'll wish that there were more pages but not because things weren't buttoned up nicely - you just want more of Michael and Mya. I don't blame you. I'm in the same boat. Steamy book and an amazing author ... I'm a massive fan!!

Book Review: The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

Twelve years ago, tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a small number of students survived, a group the media dubbed as The Ones Who Got Away.

Now, web designer Liv Arias, along with the rest of the survivors, have returned to the small Texas town to tell their stories for a documentary. But when her attempt at closure turns into a steamy kiss, moving on proves much more difficult than either of them thought...

Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package. The smooth face was now dusted with scruff, and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence. A thousand things were in those eyes. A thousand things welled up in Liv.

 

When I first saw that there was a "sneak peek" of this book on NetGalley, I was totally against reading it because I thought that it was just a snippet. And I'm an idiot. Yeah, turns out, it wasn't a snippet but the whole book. Thank goodness I got the whole book because IT. WAS. AWESOME. 

I've never read anything by this author, which gives further validation to the argument that I'm an idiot. Let's just say that I'm a fan. A big fan. Not only were the characters absolutely amazing but the book was funny in spots and I had not been expecting that at all. I also didn't expect to really connect with the main character, Liv. I'm not entirely sure why I became so attached to her because I've never directly been through such a harrowing experience ... maybe it's because of my empathy towards her but I really think it's just because the author wrote Liv in such a way that you can't help but root for her from the very first page. She's such a well written character that she becomes an old friend very quickly. 

I couldn't have picked a better dude for Liv than Finn. Finn is everything that I that I've ever wanted in a literary hero. He's protective and loyal and sweet and adoringly possessive - which I didn't even know was possible. Well, it is. Then there's this captivating character growth that Finn goes through. You're able to experience Finn morphing into what he thought he had lost so very long ago and it's completely endearing. Now for the important part ... when Finn and Liv are together ... talk about hot. So incredibly steamy and it didn't feel forced!! It was natural and totally believable. Not always something you find within the pages of a romance novel but it seems to come to author Roni Loren easily.

When I said before that Liv became a friend, that also goes hand in hand with the way this story was written. The book is about a past horrific experience but it's written in such a way that you find yourself immersed in the book - not just as a spectator but almost as if you're a part of what is going on. Actually, while reading this book, you'll find that it becomes a part of you. You never want to let it go. This is one that I will reread many times. Gosh. I miss Liv and Finn already.

Book Review: Ready to Run (I Do, I Don't #1) by Lauren Layne

As I was starting to write this review, I realized that I have NEVER given this author, Lauren Layne, less than a 5-star rating on any book that I've read by her. That's pretty amazing!! I can't say that about too many authors. 

So I guess it comes as no surprise that I gave this one five stars as well. Once again, Layne has created some unforgettable characters. Jordan is our leading lady this time and she's this polished city girl and she is as stubborn as a mule. Jordan goes for what she wants and she refuses to take no for an answer. You find out really quickly that when Jordan hears no, she interprets it as "find another way". And sometimes ... the ways she tries to go around that no are absolute genius. You can't help but just love her right from the beginning. 

And on to my favorite ... good ol' Luke. Luke is a country boy. A hunky country boy. A hunky firefighter country boy, actually. Goodness. With each word I added on there, it made me want to read this book all over again. Luke is as loyal as they come. He sticks by his friends and will take a beating if it will protect someone he cares about. I think the best thing about Luke is how he would let Jordan get under his skin and not even realize it. Let me tell you, it made for some interesting situations. The booth!!! OMG. If you have to read this book just to hear about the booth, it would be totally worth it. That was one of about a hundred of my favorite scenes in the book.

The story flows so smoothly along that before you know it, you've read the whole thing and you're left sitting there wishing that there were more pages. Layne writes such a phenomenal romance - the sex scenes are steamy, the laughter inducing situations are heartfelt and hilarious, the few sad parts are soul crushing and as a whole, the story is always absolutely unforgettable. Here's the deal ... if you're looking for a new author and you've not read anything by Layne (first of all, shame on you), give her a shot - she's one of my favorites and an author I can go to if I want a guaranteed amazing reading experience. Especially if you read this one.

Sandra Brown is just IT for me. That's the easiest way to try and convey how much I love her books. Every. Single. Book is a massive hit for me. I always love them and usually, I pick them up totally blind - not having read the blurb or not. Not reading a blurb is completely crazy and not something I regularly do. But when you've written 978 books and I've loved every one of them, well ... there's no point reading a blurb when I could just pick up the book, right?

Anyway, so it was no surprise that when I got this one, I immediately dove into it head first. Then, I was shocked ... I had a hard time pushing through the first dozen or so pages. I'm talking, I felt as if I was in quicksand and with each word that I read, I was just being bogged down. That's a pretty heavy thing to say. One of my favorite authors writing a bad book? Absolutely not. But this book is about a bombing. I'm from Oklahoma City. My dad was a criminalist for the state at the time of the Murrah bombing and this book just hit REALLY close to home. It just took me a couple of days to wrap my mind around a book about that kind of horrific action and I kept picking up then putting the book down. 

That being said, when I finally got through the initial shock of the subject of this book, I absolutely adored it. The characters are absolutely flawless and you'll find yourself falling in love with both Kerra and Trapper just like I did. As with all Brown books, the plot moves swiftly and covers a lot of ground in just 300 short pages. There are tons of surprises and twists that I never saw coming and I was constantly kept on my toes with what was happening. I always have my ideas on how one of her books is going to go and then it ends in some unfathomable way that I just never even suspected. So the suspense was great and the romance portion didn't leave me wanting in any way either. The pages practically crackled with the sparks that kept shooting between Kerra and Trapper. 

Just like I say with every single Sandra Brown book that I read, I think that this one is my new favorite and there is no way that she can top this one. No possible way. I'm sure this will be proven wrong with whatever book she cranks out next. Thank goodness for Sandra Brown - she makes me fall in love with reading every time I crack open one of her books.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the very first Bliss book years ago and I've been hooked ever since. Bliss is one of those authors that you blindly reach for in the bookstore because you just KNOW that what is within those pages is going to take you on an amazing ride. I can't wait to see what the next book has in store for us!

Why do I love this book? Because of moments like this ...

One of the many things that I love about Bliss is her way of consistently bringing old characters back into the new books. It's nice to be able to catch up with the characters you fell in love with from the previous book. And in this one, Leah and Sam don't take center stage but they are a big part of the plot and our new leading lady's life. 

I could really just go on and on about how amazing this book and Bliss are. But it would probably make you uncomfortable after I start to drone on and on about character development, how full the plot is, the pace of the story and everything in between because I would start to sound like a nutjob. But this story really is that great. All of the characters are so fully fleshed out that you feel as if they have become your friends by the time you get to the end of the novel. The pacing is set so that there isn't a dull moment and you'll find yourself not wanting to skip a single word because you don't want to miss something. And this is something that happens with each of the Bliss novels. You will love every single moment that you get to spend with her books. 

This book is sexy as hell. I was just waiting for my Kindle to burst into flames and start melting in my hands through some of these passages. Good Lord. I'm happily married but I decided that I need to find myself a Logan for my second marriage. You know when you read something sexy and you get paranoid thinking that everyone around you knows what dirty stuff you're reading? Yeah. I had that multiple times with this book. While at the doctor's office. I know that my cheeks were just flaming with embarrassment and I was sure that the little security cameras could see what I was reading. Which is completely illogical but always happens when I read the naughty bits in one of my Bliss books. 

Anyway ... a perfect book, a perfect fit (get it?) in the series and a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon by the pool. After you check this series out, you should totally look at her other series, Tangled in Texas - it is one of my all-time favorite series!

Leah blinked at the sight of her. “Val? What are you doing here? You said you weren’t coming.”

Valerie shrugged. “I changed my mind.”

“Are you feeling okay?”

“Yeah, sure. Why?”

“When you said you didn’t want to go out, I assumed you were sick. You never turn down a night out.” Leah placed her palm lightly against Valerie’s forehead. “You sure you don’t have the flu or something?”

Valerie laughed and pushed her friend’s hand away. “Oh, stop it. I just didn’t feel like getting dressed up. I’m getting tired of the whole bar scene.”

Then Valerie’s heart stopped, along with her lips. Oh God.

Brett stood there talking to a tall, dark-haired man who had one thumb hooked in the front pocket of his jeans while he leaned comfortably against the wall with his right shoulder. She couldn’t see the other guy’s face, but she didn’t need to. Valerie recognized all six feet, two inches of him. Logan Mathis.

Book Review: Solo (Symphony Hall #1) by Lauren E. Rico

When graduate student Katherine Brenner walked into my class, I couldn’t stand her -- all perfect skin and big, blue eyes -- just like the woman who broke my heart.

If it wasn’t for that blizzard, if her car hadn’t broken down outside my house, if she hadn’t looked amazing by the firelight, I never would have kissed her. No matter how hard I try, every excuse I make not to see her comes up flat.

I can’t stop thinking of her lips. Or the way her curves fit perfectly in my hands. There’s a million reasons why this won’t work. I’m her professor. It’s against university policy.

And if this gets out, I could lose everything.

Before I even start talking about what kind of marvelous things are going on between these pages, I think that we need to have a moment of silence for this cover because ... DAMN. 

Moving on! There's always been something intriguing about the college student/teacher romance thing AND when you throw in how these two start off ... this book was the perfect storm of disasters for the characters. I just couldn't put this book down!!

The story was absolutely fabulous. It wasn't too heavy and weighted down with details that I couldn't care less about. The author just dives right into the story and then barely gives you a second to buckle up for the ridiculously exciting plot. There were more exciting twists in this romance novel than I experienced with the last thriller that I read! Every time I turned around, there was some shocking plot twist that knocked me on my ample butt. 

OMG. The characters. I absolutely loved Katherine. I think maybe it was because I saw a bit of myself in her. Each time she would turn the other cheek, I loved her character even more. She was spunky when she needed to be and entirely too humble for her own good. And then the men in the book ... I don't want to spoil anything with names ... but the men in the book were written just as fabulously as Katherine. You hated some, loved some, loathed others ... they were all perfect. I found my views on each gentleman in the story changing as the novel chugged along. I definitely have my favorite but I'm not telling!! 

I read this one in one sitting and I wanted to start it all over again after I finished the last sentence. I positively adored this book. I'll definitely be picking up other books by this author!

Book Review: Romancing the Bachelor (Hamilton Family #2) by Diane Alberts

Eric Hamilton isn’t looking for love. Hell, he isn’t even looking for a girl. He has a five-year plan, and he’s one hundred percent focused on that. I positively just blew through this book. I sat down to read it in the morning and then all of the sudden I was at the end of the book and I have no clue where those hours went. I was completely immersed. 

I think what may have drawn me so deep into the book were the characters. Every single thing about Shelby and Eric was absolutely perfect. Shelby is this snarky little spitfire that will just tell you how it is. While this does come off as icy at times, I found myself frequently saying "DAAAAMMMMNNN" and then being jealous that she is so confident that she can just say whatever is on her mind. And Eric ... this man is stubborn and has just enough cockiness to back it up. It was sexy as hell. The poor man is completely oblivious though ... I don't want to tell you why ... it would spoil the surprise but it is definitely eyeroll worthy. I may have even called him an idiot. Both of these characters were just awesome and the further I got into the book, the more I got a kick out of how both of them were painfully blunt. Both of them! It created some definite sparks between them and made the book that much more exciting. 

The plot was great, the storyline was awesome. I literally read this book in one sitting and I wish that I didn't plow through it so quickly but I'm a greedy reader. I just couldn't get enough. Now I just need to read the rest of the books in the series because I have a feeling that they are all just as awesome.

When I received this book (from who I think was an editor for Heather McKenzie), I really didn't know what to think. I don't really read Young Adult novels any more and when I saw that it was published by Clean Teen Publishing ... I REALLY didn't know what to think. What I DID know is that the blurb for this book was intriguing. Here's the deal, it's not any secret that I appreciate a well placed f-bomb or a steamy sex scene in a book. While I don't seek those things out when choosing a book, I also don't mind them. But the words 'clean teen' made me think that there would be scenes that were a bit watered down. Dude. Not the case. I didn't find this out until after I finished the book but Clean Teen is all about just letting the reader know what they will find within the pages - kind of like a rating on a movie. 

Anyway, onto the book. THE. BOOK. Holy crap. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. And maybe I went into it with some preconceived notions but those were all shot down VERY quickly and I was able to immerse myself into the interesting life of Kaya. Kaya is this amazing girl that has been through so much yet, amazingly enough, it didn't kill her spirit. I think that she is a super strong character that needs to be seen more in Young Adult novels. 

I don't really want to get into any secondary characters because well, I don't want to ruin the twists and turns on these pages. But I will say this, as a reader, you're going to REALLY struggle with whom to support. The author did a great job of putting the reader through the push and pull of good and bad. Who is good and who is bad? Don't worry. Your alliance will shift quite a few times as you steamroll through Serenade. 

The story moves along quite swiftly but not jarringly so. It's just the perfect pace. I didn't find myself getting bored or skipping even a single sentence. It was a little shocking, how fast I flew through the words on these pages. I just couldn't get enough of Kaya and her life - how things were, how things became and what could be for her future, if there was one. It's nice getting to the end of the book and being left with absolutely NO questions about characters or the plot.

It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a romantic suspense this much ... probably since my last Sandra Brown and that is saying something. ESPECIALLY for a first book from an author. Are you kidding me?!? THIS is what you're coming out of the gate with? Geez. I'm in trouble. I'll be stalking library shelves indefinitely for this author - she had me hooked after the first page. Lifetime fan. SO good.
